Producing Your First Play

So you want to produce a play or musical?. This article lists the basics in starting your own production.

To begin with, choose a simple play. Whether it is a drama or musical try and choose a play with limited amount of actors, especially important if this is your first production. If you are using someone else’s script always get there permission first.

Next, calculate your budget. Normally grants are rarely given on small, first time productions, so decide whether you will fund the play or an executive producer instead.

Now it is time to look for other key members for your production crew. You need to find people specialised in set and costume, promotions, directing and producing to name a few. Finding a good stage manager, with good organising skills, is important and will greatly benefit you.
