The Martin OMC Red Birch Acoustic-Electric made with sustainable and rescued woods is no longer in production. Sustainability as defined by the World Commission (Bruntland 1987) has defined sustainability as “development that meets needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. In the case of tonewood this means that we don’t use up future generation’s wood to satisfy this generation’s guitars.
Red Birch, the first of three sustainable tonewoods used in this OMC is only occasionally seen in the guitar stores yet has been used by luthiers for years. Red Birch is similar in hardness to that of some maple woods. Do to the availability of this hardwood it is not expensive and makes an excellent tonewood. It takes courage to pursue a career in the performing arts. There are many way into the performing arts. If you wish to get involved, you can find a way in. Your ambition needs to be at least as vast as your talent and creativity. If you want to live your dream, you have keep driving on.
Are you remaining in college? Try theater or performing arts courses. Possibly your degree should be in those areas. More well known universities offer a great variety of courses in a separate school that is entirely devoted to the different areas of the performing arts. Yes, it doesn’t appear like the most practical decision, but you want to follow what is in your heart and pursue your passion.
